To help you make the most of your trip to our Region we have put together a 5 day Dubbo + Great Western Plains itinerary, mix and match and choose your own adventure from our suggested days below: 

Day 1- Dubbo


Morning

Early morning Zoo Walk: Get your trip off to the perfect start! Starting at dawn, when the animals awaken, this leisurely-guided walk experience will take you to see some of the world's most exotic and endangered species before the Zoo opens.

Breakfast: Venture into town after your Zoo walk to refuel for the day ahead! Dubbo has an array of quality coffee and breakfast/brunch spots. Check them all out here.

Afternoon

Taronga Western Plains Zoo: You’ve got a taste of the zoo but there’s still so much to see and do! With 5.5 km of sealed road and plenty of walking trails, you can hire push bikes and electric carts or even drive your car. The zoo is home to hundreds of animals from around the world and is renowned for its breeding programs, such as the Black Rhino Conservation Program. Be sure to take the time to get up close and personal with eight African lions at the new Lion Pride Lands exhibit!

Evening

Dubbo RSL Club: This venue offers something for everyone! Tribute bands, country music, comedians and hypnotists- you name it they’ve got it! Let your hair down and enjoy a night out at the Dubbo RSL Club.

Accommodation: Bunk down in a safari lodge, splurge on a private suite or snuggle up in a friendly comfy budget-friendly, family motel. There are so many options to choose from!

Day 2- Wellington


Morning

Wellington Golf Club: Get into the swing of things nice and early at Wellington Golf Club! Challenging and enjoyable for golfers of all levels, Wellington boasts an 18-hole golf course that is both beautiful and testing.

Wellington Caves and Phosphate Mine: Before you go underground, grab a bite to eat at the Caves Cafe then don your hard hat and take a step back in time! Explore a 100 year old mine and uncover megafauna fossils that roamed the earth one million years ago! An experience the whole family will enjoy!

Afternoon

Cameron Park: Take a break after your eventful morning and experience natural beauty in the heart of Wellington. Rest your feet and enjoy a picnic at the picturesque Cameron Park.

Lake Burrendong: With a lake four times the size of Sydney Harbour, it's little wonder Lake Burrendong is a mecca for water enthusiasts. Whether you are into fishing, water sports or bushwalking, Lake Burrendong has it all! Take a walk across the dam wall for views of the lake and basin.

Evening

Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club: Come in and enjoy the friendly service and country hospitality. There are weekly promotions and entertainment on Saturday night. 75 on Arthur Restaurant offers delicious dinner option 7 days a week or you can venture out to one of Wellington’s other fine eateries.

Accommodation: After a busy day of activities and exploring, it’s time for a well-earned rest. From five star to under the stars, you are spoilt for choice in the Dubbo Region

Day 3- Dubbo


Morning

Tracker Riley Cycleway: Get your day off on the right foot by tackling the Tracker Riley Cycleway. The 13km loop extends between the CBD and historic Dundullimal Homestead. Walk, run or ride, it’s the perfect opportunity to take in the serenity of the Macquarie River foreshore.

Breakfast: Enjoy a barista-style coffee and sink your teeth into a hearty meal at one of our cafes or restaurants where the portions are as generous as the friendly smiles!

Afternoon

Western Plains Cultural Centre: This state-of-the-art facility boasting a gallery, museum and modern cafe, is Dubbo’s creative soul! The centre, which is free to the public, offers high quality exhibits from both local and visiting artists. The Outlook Café also offers alfresco dining seven days a week.

Old Dubbo Gaol: Discover another world and take a step back in time at Old Dubbo Gaol. A State Heritage listed site which remains intact and restored, creating a pocket in time and unearthing powerful, dark moments in Australian prison history. Keen for more? Book a Twilight Tour that the whole family can enjoy or if you’re up for it, take a Beyond the Grave Tour – bookings essential!

Evening

Dubbo Observatory: Arrive before dark and play astro minigolf. Then explore the night sky, view planets, stars and galaxies through telescopes. Bring your SLR camera and take astrophotographs.

Dinner: Dubbo has a plethora of eating options! Feel like a succulent steak or plate of smokey ribs? Or maybe you’re keen for a budget-friendly pub meal. Either way, we’ve got you covered!

Day 4- Warrumbungles


Morning

Warrumbungle National Park: It’s time for an adventure! Pack your backpack and hit the road for the Warrumbungle National Park. Take a gentle walk along easy access trails or hike the mapped walking tracks – like the majestic Breadknife, rated one of Australia’s Top 10 walks.

Afternoon

Pilliga Pottery and Barkala Farm: After a morning of adventure and hiking, sit and watch artisans at work creating unique terracotta pottery with stained glass effects or try your hand at pottery under the guidance of talented artists. Have a tasty a treat in the Blue Wren Café or relax and enjoy the atmosphere of Barkala Farm.

Evening

Siding Spring Observatory and Nightsky Tours: Did you know the Warrumbungle National Park is Australia’s only Dark Sky Park? Renowned for its crystal clear starry skies, it truly is a sight to behold! For a total astronomy immersion book into a night viewing activity at Warrumbungle or Milroy Observatories. 

Day 5- Great Western Plains


Morning

Narromine Aviation Museum: Start in Narromine, located approximately half an hour from Dubbo. Experience nearly a century of aviation history in Australia’s oldest regional aero club’s collection of photographs, records, artefacts and aircraft through wartime to today.

Main Street Narromine: Experience warm country hospitality and enjoy a great range of local shopping experiences. Or just take some time out for a bite to eat at the local bakery or one of the cafes.

Afternoon

Wine Tasting: You’ve had a big week and now it’s time to treat yourself. Jump in the car from Narromine and head north-west to Warren, less than an hour away for an authentic taste of the wine of the Warren region and a delightful stroll along the Macquarie River.

Evening

Country Pub: Bring an end to your journey with a night at one of the local hotels for a unique country pub experience. Get to know the locals and enjoy a well-earned drink, delicious meal and some quality country hospitality.
